POSITION OVERVIEW
Fidelity National Financial (FNF) and its family of companies, is seeking an entrepreneurial and motivated Underwriting Counsel to support our agency operations in Kentucky. This is a high-impact role for a licensed Kentucky attorney with deep knowledge of Kentucky real estate law, and a passion for education and client engagement. This position plays a key role in supporting title agents, resolving complex underwriting issues, and educating customers on the best title practices, all while helping move real estate transactions toward a successful closing. You will be a legal and strategic partner, working alongside our sales team to deliver value through training, consulting, and hands-on support.
LOCATION
- This is an onsite position in our Louisville, KY office with occasional travel up to 10%.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide legal underwriting guidance to residential title agents and direct operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution of title issues.
- Conduct underwriting reviews for Kentucky-based transactions, with a strong command of local real estate statutes and legal precedents.
- Support commercial underwriting as needed, though most work will be agency focused.
- Serve as a go-to resource for agents and internal teams on Kentucky-specific title and escrow matters.
- Deliver live training and educational presentations to agents at workshops, webinars, and office visits (in-state travel required, approximately 10%).
- Contribute to growing our market share in Kentucky through consultative underwriting, thought leadership, and relationship building.
- Help customers and their clients get transactions to the finish line with professionalism, agility, and deep legal insight.
- Build and maintain a reputation as a trusted legal advisor and champion for agent success.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Kentucky.
- Requires 3+ years of legal or underwriting experience in the title industry, preferably within a high-volume or agency-focused environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Kentucky real estate law, title insurance, and escrow practices.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to lead in-person and virtual education sessions.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Existing relationships or a book of business in Kentucky is a strong plus.
